Toni Morrison - Race and Othello

The Nobel and Pulitzer Prize-winning author discusses how Othello has become a type-cast character for classically trained black actors with interviewer Jerry Brotton, and why her play ‘Desdemona’ aims to give Shakespeare’s ‘Othello’ a second voice. ‘Desdemona’ takes the characters beyond the critical lens of racial relations and into an afterlife where there is time for deeper reflection.
